The New ETC ColorSource Spot jr

The ETC ColorSource Spot jr 20-50 degree zoom is the newest addition to the ColorSource family of affordable ETC fixtures. At only 5.5 kg, ColorSource Spot jr is nearly half the weight of a full-sized ColorSource Spot fixture. And it’s not only half the size, it’s also about half the price.

Like the other ColorSource fixtures, Spot jr offers stunning colors and precise dimming at an irresistible price. Spot jr is available in two array options – Original for subtle pastels and beautiful white light to enhance skin tones, and Deep Blue for more saturated, dramatic colors. Like all ColorSource fixtures, Spot jr includes ETC’s color integrity technologies so you can be sure the colors you set in rehearsal are the same colors you see during the show. This includes thermal droop compensation, third-party lifetime testing, and comprehensive factory color calibration.

ETC offers an impressive 5-year warranty on the entire fixture, and an astonishing 10-year warranty on the LED array. Pair that with ETC’s unmatched 24/7/365 phone support and you’ll never regret buying a ColorSource Spot jr.

With over 5,700 lumens of brightness, ColorSource Spot jr gives you more of what you love at a fraction of the cost AND a fraction of the size.

A message from our Director:

I really wanted to add my thanks to everyone in Wales who took part in the #LightItInRed event on Tuesday and the fantastic team, led by Sarah Hemsley-Cole for your work behind the scenes organising us all.

The huge amount effort by everyone involved in preparing for the evening and attending at fairly short notice was amazing and makes me proud to work in our industry.

Please keep sharing the message and lobbying your MP if you can, we all need to support the industry.

Thank you!

Phil Hurley

Stage Lighting Services are proud to support the #WeMakeEvents initiative to raise awareness and garner support for the events industry, as across the UK the events sector struggles to survive the ongoing Covid-19 Crisis.

More information below on how you can get involved and show your support at our day of action next Tuesday 11 August.

Please help if you are able.

#WeMakeEvents has reached RED ALERT. Thank you for all of your fantastic support so far. Hearing your stories and sharing your experiences is having an incredibly positive impact on the campaign.

Join us in Cardiff as part of the nationwide campaign for #WEMAKEEVENTS – RED ALERT on 11th August 2020 @ approx. 9pm – 9.30pm TBC

Live music, theatres, stadiums and arenas across Wales will be lit in red.

We are encouraging ALL involved in the arts across Wales and the entire UK to get involved, to get something going where you are and get together locally.

For those in Cardiff, we are coordinating our efforts by encouraging you industry professionals and venue staff to show the individuals behind the magic, the souls, who are currently being forgotten. So whether you’re a technician, front of house staff, an actor or a stage hand, ANYONE who works in events, live music, theatre is welcome to attend.

Can’t make it and want another way to get involved? We ask you to place a red light inside an empty van/truck/flightcase or simply join us in lighting your building in red and post the images to social media with the hash tag #wemakeevents

Once registered you will be allocated a venue to turn up at on Tuesday evening (in line with current Government guidance we will only be gathering in groups of no more than 30 persons)

We are also looking for a handful of local technicians to assist with the set up of lighting venues in red and we can support others wishing to be involved with equipment up to a 30 mile radius of Cardiff.

– PRE REGISTRATION REQUIRED – Please email wemakeeventscardiff@gmail.com The safety of all participants is priority during these unprecedented times. In Wales we are being asked to gather in no more than groups of 30 people and so locations will be sent out nearer to the time as to where you have been allocated. Please note pre-registration closes midday on Monday 10th August 2020.

– WEAR RED – We are asking everyone to please wear red. This doesn’t have to be a T-shirt, it can be a scarf, a hat, a dress, a shirt, anything, but we ask that you wear red and black preferably.

– KEEP SAFE – It is of upmost importance that we adhere to social distancing measures and keep 2m apart to create the right message in raising awareness for our industry. We also ask that you please bring and wear a face mask. If you have a red one that is preferable. Please also bring hand sanitizer and water.

– RECRUIT YOUR COLLEGUES AND FRIENDS – Share event posts and videos on social media.

On Tuesday 11 August the #WeMakeEvents – RED ALERT campaign is calling on the Government to ‘THROW US A LINE’ before we lose the talent and expertise that is the envy of the world. Across the country events will be happening to draw attention to the numbers of people and their livelihoods affected by the government closure of the events industry. Our industry was the first to stop and will most likely be the last to return.

We are asking for

1. Grants – not loans – made available to businesses in the events supply chain
2. Furlough scheme extended until the industry is back to work
3. Extension of the self-employed scheme, tailored towards the industry.

WE MAKE EVENTS : www.plasa.org/we-make-events/

The events industry will not survive the next 100 days!

Since early March, the events industry has been mostly without work. All kinds of major events are currently prohibited due to the COVID-19 crisis. Corporate events, conferences, concerts, festivals, weddings, trade shows and theatrical performances are no longer able to go ahead. This is leaving an entire industry dormant, with over twenty-five thousand businesses and over half a million workers throughout the UK directly suffering the ill effects.

Companies from all across the events industry, as well as event locations, (event centres, convention centres, conference hotels, theatres, concert halls, playhouses and nightclubs) throughout the UK are joining together on the night of the 6th of July 2020. By lighting their buildings, or buildings in their region, red in order to draw attention to the dramatic situation in the event industry we can make a statement that can’t be ignored.

We were the first ones out, and will be the last ones back in.

If you would like to Join us in lighting your building in red. Get in touch via our contact us page and we will try to help.

Announcement: Company Update

In 1975 Alan Blakoe was working for the National Coal Board as a Land Surveyor. As a hobby he purchased a few lanterns, built a home- made lighting desk and volunteered his services to local amateur dramatic societies/schools. Over time Alan’s interest and expertise in theatre lighting grew as did his collection of equipment and in 1981 he established Stage Lighting Services. In 1997 he retired from his career as a surveyor to run his new business full time.

Over the years, Alan has worked with hundreds of companies, professional and amateur including schools, community groups, drama companies and corporate events building up the business. With a reputation for providing expert advice and service with a big smile and a can-do attitude, nothing is too much trouble to ensure a happy customer and a successful production.

From operating the company from the front room in his house, then to a small unit in Fairwater, expanding into ever larger units to the current extensive premises in Pentwyn, Cardiff, Alan has built up from his hobby to a loyal customer base of over 1500. Now, in 2019, Stage Lighting Services employs a staff of 15 providing lighting and staging, along with a range of services including design, installation and operators for productions and events.

“Stage Lighting Services has been a journey of nearly 45 years for me. I had no idea that my love for Musical Theatre would allow me to have a career that’s brought me so much joy over the years. It’s been a pleasure to work with so many people in Cardiff, South Wales and beyond, and I am proud of the part we are able to play in making their productions and events a success.”

Stage Lighting Services will continue under the ownership of Alan’s long-term friend and colleague Phil Hurley, Director of sister-company Stage Sound Services.

Alan met Phil Hurley in 1990, working on a school production at Alan’s former school Whitchurch High where Phil was still a student at the time. Phil started Stage Sound Services and they worked closely together building their respective companies. They moved in to shared premises together in 1999 and have grown together supporting each other’s individual visions and development but still sharing a physical space and joint resources.

Alan says: “Over the last few years I have considered the future of Stage Lighting Services when the time came for me to retire. This has been my life’s work and I wanted to make sure that it was left in safe hands, someone who knew the company and understood our ethos. Knowing Phil so well, it was an obvious choice and I am confident my customers will continue to receive the quality services, advice and support that they expect from Stage Lighting Services”.

Phil takes over ownership from the 1st June 2019. “I left school inspired by Alan and with the idea that I could work within the creative arts and start my own business. Over the years Alan has provided me with advice and support as I started Stage Sound Services, and as it became more established, I hope I was able to play that role for Alan too. It’s a privilege to work with Stage Lighting Services and it’s business as usual for the staff here continuing to provide our clients with quality lighting and staging. Alan has left a great legacy and we intend to continue that for many years to come. “

Alan remains active in the local Cardiff theatre community so you will no doubt see him soon. All the staff at Stage Lighting Services wish Alan a very long and happy retirement and thanks for his many years of hard work..
